Data Analyst Associate

The primary role of the Data Analyst Associate (DAA) is performing financial data analysis using XBRL exhibits as filed with the U.S Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) to support Accounting Standards projects and related Board level research; as well as supporting the ongoing development and maintenance of the Financial Taxonomy.
The DAA possesses strong financial data analysis skills, an affinity for research, the computer language skills necessary to support the management and analysis of the related data, and the ability to learn structured data formats like eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). The position is responsible for responding to internal data requests, performing necessary analysis, and informing staff of the results to assist in accounting standard setting activities and supporting research for Taxonomy development.
As a member of the Taxonomy team, the DAA will also lead projects supporting the annual Taxonomy update directed at improving the team's overall effectiveness and efficiency.
The Taxonomy team is responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of the Taxonomy and providing financial data analysis input to the FASB Board and staff, as well as providing guidance for constituents to support effective and informed use of the Taxonomy. The Taxonomy is primarily used by SEC registrants for creating and submitting XBRL exhibits in compliance with SEC rules.
RESPONSIBILITIES
o Responsible for collecting, documenting and executing business requirements for data analysis requests based on SEC XBRL exhibits that support Board level agenda topics and ongoing Taxonomy improvement efforts
o Develop and maintain SQL queries necessary to access offsite databases
o Develop and communicate written and oral recommendations based on financial data analysis
o Based on analysis, provide feedback to the Taxonomy staff on taxonomy modeling that could improve usability for data aggregators and analysts
o Develop and maintain analytics for measuring Taxonomy improvements, quality of XBRL exhibits, and Taxonomy usage patterns over time
o Leading outreach activities with data aggregators and other consumers of XBRL data to identify their requirements for the Taxonomy
o Evaluate new XBRL analytic tools for potential use by the Board
o Provide instruction for XBRL based research tools to staff
o Provide backup support for the Taxonomy team computer systems specialists.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
o Bachelor's degree or better in statistics, computer science, mathematics, or comparable experience. Some accounting background desirable
o Experience mining large financial datasets; including writing SQL queries, data cleaning, mapping data from difference sources, and writing / using R functions
o Minimum of 3-5 years work experience in related field.
Technical Knowledge and Analytical Skills
o Experience writing and using SQL queries against large data sets
o Experience writing and using R programming language functions for data mining; or functions for similar statistical computing and graphics applications
o Experience using advanced Microsoft Access and Excel functions
o Knowledge of and experience with structured data modeling and database structures
o Experience using SEC XBRL exhibits for financial data aggregation and analysis desirable
o Basic understanding of GAAP financial reporting desirable
o Concise and clear communication skills with the ability to translate findings into an easy to understand document or presentation

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
